Quayside Boardwalk Festival & Sale, Saturday, August 19

4th annual "Quayside BOARDWALK festival & sale"

Originated by the QUAYSIDE COMMUNITY BOARD (, the BOARDWALK festival & sale is pleased to welcome DOWNTOWN New Westminster BIA and their many merchants. The QCB is the largest residential board association representing over 2080 members.

Just off Quayside Drive along the Promenade (Boardwalk) beside the mighty Fraser River in the City of New Westminster. Over 5000 people are expected to stroll more than a kilometer along the Boardwalk from Reliance Court to the new River Market and further on to Hyack Spirit Square and up historical Columbia Street.

Saturday, August 21st, 2010 10am to 3pm -- Rain or Shine!

First, it is an event for family and friends to be together and enjoy an incredible day of shopping, recycling, fun, festivities, eating and so much more.

Second, the Boardwalk festival and sale is the largest recycling event in the lower mainland. The theme for this event is Recycle, Refill, Reuse and RESELL! 150 tables will display an abundance of quality goods for sale ranging from Kitchen items, Furniture, Books, Clothes, Sport Goods, Technology, Antiques, Collectibles and a plethora of bric-a-brac items. Items bound for new homes not destined for landfills.

Third, raising awareness of social issues such as Cancer (Run For The Cure For Breast Cancer), as well as monies for charities and not-for-profit organizations, is a critical component of this events history and future. Be sure to bring a few extra dollars for the Raffles and Hot Dogs for charity, as well as a can or box of non-perishables for the Food Bank.


New West Environmental Partners Meeting, Thursday, August 19

The NWEP will be holding its bimonthly regular meeting on August 19th,
7:00pm, in the auditorium (downstairs) at the New Westminster Public
(716 6th ave).

All members, potential members, non-members, or curiosity-seekers are
welcome. Share if you want, or just sit and listen, the future of New
Westminster's environment is up to you!

This will be the last regular meeting before October’s AGM, and the topics will/may include:
  • NWEP participation in Rivers Day & working with the City and the VACC to develop an interactive activity for kids
  • Further Trash talk: potential for sponsoring a City-wide contest on the most creative use of a soon-to be obsolete garbagebin
  • Potential to work with a keen representative of the New Westminster
    School District to improve recycling/composting practices in the
  • The future of Garbage incinerators: Our mayor is on the record wanting one in New West: do we?
  • The future of the Patullo Bridge and the impact on New West’s liveability
  • Rousing the Rabble in the Transportation group.

RIP: Will Bosch, QRA Recording Secretary

On Monday, August 2, 2010, Will Bosch, Recording Secretary for the Queensborough Residents Association, while walking on the Queensborough Bridge collapsed mid-span. Efforts to revive him were partially successful, but damage from lack of oxygen to his brain was extensive and he died soon after being taken off life support on Thursday.

He was well-known for his contributions to the community and will be sorely missed.
